Sustainability management serves as a binding framework to ensure that processes, products, and decisions are aligned in such a way that they meet the needs of the present generation without compromising the opportunities of future generations. The sustainability principles reflect our clear commitment to sustainability and communicate our values, goals, and measures transparently both internally and externally.

2. Scope

These principles apply to:

All employees of HOFFMANN MINERAL GmbH
All sites and facilities of HOFFMANN MINERAL GmbH
All relationships with business partners of HOFFMANN MINERAL GmbH

Sustainability management is aimed at all internal and external stakeholders such as employees, business partners, suppliers, customers, authorities, society, academia, as well as banks and insurance companies and forms the basis for joint action in the interest of sustainable development.

3. Objectives of sustainability management

HOFFMANN MINERAL GmbH’s understanding of effective sustainability management, with the overarching objective of making a positive contribution in relevant ecological, social, and economic areas, is pursued throughout the company through the following activities:

Contributing positively to an ecologically sustainable, socially just, and economically viable development of society,
Working together with our partners to reduce the ecological footprint along the value chain and
Promoting innovation and strengthening competitiveness.

4. Principles of sustainability management

HOFFMANN MINERAL GmbH’s sustainability management is integrated into the company’s strategy and culture and is continuously being further developed. Sustainability management and the activities associated with it are in line with applicable German law and standards, as well as relevant international law and regulations. In particular, the following international sustainability standards and regulations should be highlighted:

The Paris Agreement on climate change and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs),
The Universal Declaration of Human Rights,
The United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights,
The United Nations Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women,
The International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, which reaffirms our commitment to civil liberties and non-discrimination,
The fundamental conventions of the International Labour Organization (ILO),
The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises, as well as
The principles of the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC).

The management board and the responsible employees are accountable for implementing this policy.

5. Sustainability management

Sustainability management is embedded in all business processes. Through innovative approaches and a strong commitment to social and environmental responsibility, the company strives to have a positive impact on society, the environment, and future generations. All defined goals are reviewed annually with regard to the degree of achievement and, where necessary, adjusted to current developments in the market, society, and politics. The regular review of these goals enables the company to set ambitious yet economically and socially achievable targets.

Resource management

HOFFMANN MINERAL GmbH actively manages the use of raw materials with the aim of minimizing its ecological footprint without compromising product performance. The reduction of wastewater and waste, as well as the prevention of soil contamination, air pollution, and noise emissions, is a central component of the sustainability strategy. At the same time, the company is committed to continuously reducing energy consumption and the associated CO₂ emissions in line with legal requirements.

We pursue the following goals:

Conversion of externally sourced electricity to 100% renewable sources (“green electricity”) by 2030
Reduction of CO₂ emissions by 10% per tonne of product by 2035
100% compliance with TA Luft requirements — no exceedances / incidents
Reduction of waste volume per tonne of product by 10% by 2035
100% compliance with noise level limits — no exceedances / incidents
Zero environmental incidents (soil)
Establishment of a Hoffmann Mineral raw material list based on the Substances of Concern concept
Striving for a continuous reduction of the CO₂ footprint of the raw materials used
Expansion of the share of non-calcined products in the product portfolio
Reduction of freshwater withdrawal by 30% per tonne of product by 2035

Environment and nature conservation

HOFFMANN MINERAL GmbH is actively committed to minimizing the environmental impact of its actions. The focus is on the recultivation of open-pit mining areas, thereby preserving regional ecosystems and creating new biotopes.

We pursue the following goals:

100% of the used land area will be recultivated
Participation in voluntary initiatives focusing on biodiversity / species diversity

Social responsibility

HOFFMANN MINERAL GmbH promotes a corporate culture based on respect, trust, and equal opportunity. Furthermore, HOFFMANN MINERAL GmbH integrates sustainability aspects into its customer relationships and pursues preventive risk management along the supply chain.

We pursue the following goals:

Reduction of the LTIR metric¹ to 3.8 as a 5-year average
Striving for zero serious accidents
100% compliance with fine dust exposure limits at all workplaces
Continuous further development of the occupational safety culture
Maintaining the gender ratio at 15% (+/- 2.5%)
Employee turnover <10% as a 5-year average
Establishment of systems and a data basis to enable the definition of a quantitative training target as part of future strategy adjustments
Prevention of any discrimination against employees, with the aim of having no incidents identified by the internal complaints office in accordance with the German General Equal Treatment Act (AGG)
Integration of sustainability aspects as a fixed component of customer relationships and customer dialogue
100% of partnerships and business practices are based on a Code of Conduct
95% of the relevant workforce is trained on the identified governance topics.

Sustainablity management is deeply embedded in the mindset and actions of HOFFMANN MINERAL GmbH and represents a central element of the company's strategy and culture. Our sustainability-related success factors are based on the consistent alignment of all processes with our sustainability principles, the active commitment of all stakeholders, and the promotion of a culture that supports innovation and continuous improvement.

These guidelines are reviewed annually by the sustainability department and the management board, updated as needed, and approved during the strategic review meeting.
